Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer Leaving Standing Water: Drain Path Checklist
Standing water in a DishDrawer usually traces to the filter, sump, or drain hose—not “a weak cycle.” Here is the order we check.
A DishDrawer that finishes with a lake in the base is annoying and, if ignored, can trigger flood protection on the next fill.
Unlike a tall tub dishwasher, each Fisher & Paykel drawer has a compact sump. A small amount of food waste goes a long way toward choking drainage.
Work through the soft blockages first; call for pump or hose service when water still will not leave after those steps.
Filter and Sump: The Usual Culprits
Lift the filter assembly, rinse both the fine mesh and the coarser basket, and check the cavity beneath for glass chips or labels. Re-seat the filter firmly—loose filters can confuse sensors and restrict flow.
Spray Arm and Air Paths
Spin the spray arm by hand. If it drags, clear the hubs. Also confirm nothing has slipped under the drawer lip that keeps the drawer from sealing and completing its drain routine.
- Clean filters after heavily soiled loads.
- Keep paper labels and large bones out of the drawer.
- Confirm the drain hose has a high loop where required.
- Avoid stuffing the drawer so full that spray arms stall.
Hose and Sink Connection Issues
A crushed drain hose behind the cabinet or a clogged sink air gap can leave one or both drawers wet. If both drawers suddenly fail to drain after a plumbing change, start at the shared drain connection.
Pump Failure Signs
Humming without water movement, repeated drain fault lights, or water that returns immediately after a manual bail-out point to a drain pump or check valve problem. Those are technician jobs.
Safety note: Bail standing water with a cup and towel; do not tip the entire cabinet or disconnect drain plumbing while powered.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is a little water at the end of a cycle normal?
A thin film can remain; a deep puddle that wets the filter well is not normal.
Will running a hotter cycle fix drainage?
Heat does not clear a mechanical blockage. Clean the path first.
If the drawer still holds water after filter care, schedule dishwasher service or send us the symptoms so we can test the pump and hose route.
